Request Articles and Books

The service is available to UMB faculty, staff, and students. Books and articles are obtained for the use of the requester. Only requests for materials relevant to the work of UMB initiatives, services, course work, and projects will be accepted.
The Library fulfills article and book requests with materials held in the Library or through external libraries (Interlibrary Loans).
Requests for service are made via the ILLiad electronic request form.
For materials in the Library, requests will be filled within 24 hours. Materials needing to be borrowed from another library may take longer. Please indicate the "Not Wanted After" date in the request.
Books owned by another USM library (University System of MD) will not be borrowed via Interlibrary Loan. See "Borrowing Books from Another USM Library" for information about requesting USMAI books.
HSHSL adheres to copyright laws and guidelines.

UMB faculty, staff, students, and residents/fellows.

The service is free. However, any copyright fees incurred are paid by individual schools.

The Library processes requests Monday through Friday, 7:30 to 4:00.

Complete an ILLiad request form. Indicate “Not Wanted After” date. Citations should be complete and non-abbreviated.
Providing a DOI or PMID is encouraged to expedite your article delivery.

Article requests are delivered electronically:
- Posted to your ILLiad account. You will receive an email notification that it has been posted with a link to access your account. Once you login, the article is in your 'Electronically Received Articles' where it will remain for 30 days. Copyright fees, if applicable, apply whether or not the article is viewed.
- Emailed to the email address specified in your UMB account.
Books will be held at the HSHSL Information Services desk for pick-up during library hours. You will be notified via e-mail that the book has arrived. Note: you are responsible to return the book to HSHSL on time to avoid charges imposed by the book lender.

UMB is a member of OCLC, Docline and Rapid consortium.
Non-OCLC and Non-Docline libraries may register to use our services via Lending Web - by clicking the "First Time Users" link and make requests from there.

- $35.00 for for-profit libraries (books only)

Status	Definition
Awaiting Copyright Clearance	The article requested must be reviewed to determine if any copyright fees need to be paid.
Awaiting Customer Response	The request is pending, waiting on your response to questions from Library staff. Please respond promptly to expedite the process.
In DD Stacks Searching	This item is available at the HSHSL and is being processed.
Request Sent	This item is not available at the HSHSL and has been sent to another library for fulfillment. It may take 2-14 days to deliver the item.
Delivered to Web	The article is in your ILLiad account now and will stay there for 30 days before it is deleted. Please retrieve it promptly.
Awaiting Overdue Notice Processing	The book you borrowed is now overdue. Please return it promptly to avoid being blocked from ILLiad.
Item Checked In	The book you returned has been received by the Library.
