  8. Choose a pick-up/delivery location and click "Send"
  9. If your request is successful you will see the following confirmation, "Item requested for pickup at (library). You will be notified when item is available for pickup."

UMB faculty, staff and students; UMMC faculty and staff; USMAI faculty, staff and students; VA residents and fellows; corporate members and borrowing members.

You can keep HSHSL books, media and theses for 28 days with 3 renewals allowed. Borrowing periods and renewals for other USMAI books vary by library. All books are subject to recall, which may shorten loan periods.

You can renew HSHSL materials up to three times. Items may be renewed online through My Account or contact the Information Services Desk.

Unless someone is an official designated borrower for you, only you can use your library card to check out library materials. If you are UMB faculty, you may give permission to someone else to check out materials on your behalf. Please send written permission on department letterhead requesting this service. Indicate the designated borrower's name and if there is a date by which their privileges should end. A note will be made in your library account with this information.

If you are not UMB faculty and have extenuating circumstances that require this service, please contact the Information Services Desk for assistance.

Yes, for any HSHSL materials checked out to My Account. If you provide us with your email address, a courtesy notice will be emailed to you five days before the due date. You will also receive overdue notices via email.

If you do not receive library notices, first check your email spam box. If you still do not receive your library notices, please contact the Information Services Desk for assistance.

Please remember: When you check out library materials you assume responsibility for returning or renewing them on time and for paying any fines incurred, even if you do not receive a notice.

If a request has been placed on an item already checked out to you, your due date will be shortened and you cannot renew the loan.

  • All borrowers will receive a minimum two week loan except in special circumstances.
  • Recalled items are due 14 days from the date of the recall notice.
  • Books whose recall date falls after the original due date are still due on the original due date. Regular overdue fines are charged based on the original due date. However, the recall overdue fine does not apply until 14 days after the recall notice is generated.

You will be notified of the new due date by email or paper notice (if you have no email on record). You must return the item by the shortened due date in order to avoid fines.

You may request it online through the library catalog or contact the Information Services Desk for assistance. The patron who has the item checked out has 14 days to return it. To check the status of your request, including the recall due date, login to My Account and click on the "Requests" link.

Contact the Information Services Desk, library staff will search for the item for you and/or help you locate an alternate copy.
