Public Computing & Printing

Computers can be found on all floors of the Library. Access is on a first come first served basis, with priority given to UMB faculty, students, and staff who are conducting research. Personal email and other non-academic activities should be kept to a minimum. The general public may use computers to conduct health related research. Computers for the general public are located on the 1st floor only.

Running the Windows XP operating system, all computers are equipped with compact disc rewriteable drives (CDR), DVD players, head phone jacks, and multiple USBs. A library barcode is needed to access most of the workstations.

Computers have internet access and Microsoft Office 2007 software including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher and Infopath. Other software available includes OpenOffice and RefWorks Write-N-Cite.

Note: Personal work that is stored on the library's computers will not be saved. Please bring a USB flash drive to save your work.


Printing is available on floors 1 - 5. UMB students, faculty and staff may use their UM One Card for printing. Others may purchase a guest print card on the 1st floor of the Library for $1.00. When adding funds to your One Card or guest card be sure to select the "One Card" option and NOT "CC dining points."


  • Printing costs 10 cents per page.
  • Duplex printing is available at 10 cents per side.
  • Color printing is available at 50 cents per page.

When you select print from one of our computer stations, or on your laptop using wireless printing, you will be prompted to create a username and password for your print job. At the print station on the floor where you printed (1st floor for wireless printing), swipe your One Card at the terminal. You will see all the jobs listed. Click on your name and enter your password then click OK to release your print job from the printer.

Wireless Printing

Wireless printing is available in the Library for patrons with Windows laptops (Windows 7 or later) and Mac laptops (OS X 10.4 or later). You will need to download and install a software package while you are physically in the Library and connected to a campus wireless network. You will receive an error if you try to install the software while you are outside of the library building. Once installed, a printer called "Macblue" (for Macintosh) or "1st Floor M605" (for Windows) will be available to select for printing on your computer. In Windows, this Pharos software will appear in the Programs list should you decide to uninstall at a later time.

All wireless print jobs will be sent to the printer on the first floor of the HS/HSL ("Macblue" for Macintosh or "1st Floor M605" for Windows), regardless of your location in the Library.
