Reference and research services are provided at the reference desk on the first floor of the Library. Reference librarians and reference department staff can help you find information using print and non-print resources. They are available to answer questions, assist with research, and provide technical support when using the computers in the Reference area.

Auto Alert Service
To set up auto alerts, the reference librarian will meet with you to develop a search strategy and help you save searches in databases of your choice. This service allows you to receive frequent updates in current literature on a particular topic. Free to UMB faculty, staff and students. Request an Auto Alert Search
Consultations
Request a consultation on a topic, research project or in the use of an information resource. Consultations are available to UMB faculty, staff and students and UMMC staff. There is no charge for this service. You can request a consultation with your library liaison or with the reference librarian. Request a consultation
Literature Search Service
Reference librarians provide computerized literature searches in over 500 databases. These mediated searches are completed within 24 hours of the request. Results will include full citations and abstracts, when available. Delivery methods include in-print pick up and electronic access via RefWorks. This service is provided to UMB faculty, staff and affiliates. Fees apply. Request a literature search
Tours
Would you like a better understanding of the library and its services? Reference staff provide tours that include seeing all six floors of the library building, identifying service points, and providing an overview of services available to students, faculty, and staff. Workshops
Library workshops are 50 minute sessions designed to help you learn how to use the library onsite and remotely, manage information, and improve your literature searching skills. All workshops are held in one of the three computer classrooms located on the Lower Level of the library.
These instructional sessions are offered free of charge to UMB student, faculty, staff and affiliates; UMMC staff; VA staff; and HS/HSL Corporate Members during Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Registration is recommended; walk-ins are welcome!
