What is ILLiad?

ILLiad is the electronic system used to request an item through HS/HSL's Resource Sharing department. The name ILLiad can be thought of as an acronym for InterLibrary Loan Internet Accessible Database.

First Time Users Registration

To request an item using ILLiad, you must first register on our First Time Users Registration Page. You will then be logged into ILLiad where you can enter your request information in the appropriate web form.

Making Requests in ILLiad

• Requests are made using ILLiad:
  • https://www.docdel.umaryland.edu
• No telephone, fax or e-mail requests are accepted.
• Please take care in completing the citation information in your requests. The more complete the information you supply, the faster we are able to process your request.
• For most expeditious processing requests of article requests, please include:
  • Journal title
  • Journal, volume, issue, and year
  • Article title and author
  • Page numbers
• Double check your delivery method and billing option every time you make a request. We examine those options with each request and will adhere to your choices.

Explanation of ILLiad Statuses

ILLiad uses statuses to track requests and to manage the work flow. Library users may use these to determine the location of a request at any given time.

Life of Electronic Articles

PDFs posted to your ILLiad account will remain "live" for 14 days. On the 15th day, they are no longer available and a new request will have to be made (and paid for) in order to receive that article again. You are notified by e-mail when articles are posted for retrieval.

We charge for the transaction whether or not you download the article within the 14 days.

Checking Statuses of Your Requests

The current status of any ILLiad request can be viewed by logging into your ILLiad account or feel free to call the Resource Sharing department at 410-706-3239 to inquire about request statuses.
