Borrowing Privileges at the Health
Sciences and Human Services Library (HS/HSL)
Anyone who has borrowing privileges
at the Health Sciences & Human Services Library must be registered in the
Circulation system. The Circulation Policies
are presented and explained to each borrower as she or he is entered into
the system. A barcode is placed on the person's identification card. This
card must be presented before a transaction may take place.
Borrowing privileges are limited to:
- Students, faculty, and staff of the
University of Maryland, Baltimore or by agreement with any of these institutions:
- Bowie State University
- Coppin State University
- Frostburg State University
- Morgan State University
- Salisbury State University
- St Mary's College of Maryland
- Towson State University

- The Health Sciences & Human Services
Library does extend borrowing privileges to patrons under specific programs
or special circumstances, such as corporate accounts and individual and alumni
memberships. Interested patrons should contact the Head
of Circulation.
- Exceptions - The Head of Circulation
must authorize any privileges extended to patrons who do not fit the special
categories already established.
Patron Responsibilities
- Patrons who owe $50.00 or more in library
fines and/or fees will be denied borrowing privileges until the debt is reduced
to less than $50.00.
- Patrons are responsible for reporting
to Circulation any changes in their names, addresses, telephone numbers,
or borrowing status. Failure to do so does not alter obligations.
- Borrowers are responsible for
items borrowed from HS/HSL until the items have been discharged at HS/HSL.
- Patrons should report lost or
stolen borrowers' cards to Circulation immediately, so that the Library
may block use of the card.
- Patrons should keep track of
due dates for items they have checked out. The Library sends out overdue
notices, but this practice is a courtesy; the Library is not responsible
for notifying patrons that their items are overdue.
- Borrowers should return material
promptly by the due date or the renewal date. HS/HSL fines users who
do not return items by the due date. There is no grace period for overdue
material.
- Borrowers should respond promptly
to all notices to help minimize the occurrence of overdue fines.
- Borrowers must clear all obligations
with the Library before leaving the UMB campus.

The Health Sciences and Human Services Library has reciprocal borrowing
privileges with the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions
(USMAI) libraries. Faculty, staff or students from the University of Maryland,
Baltimore may borrow directly from these libraries or request items via the
library catalog.
