Downloading/Installing Instructions for SciFinder Scholar

SciFinder Scholar 2007 for Windows (2000/XP/Vista)

Step 1 - Download SciFinder Scholar Software

  • Double click on SciFinder.exe
  • Click on Unzip
  • Use C:\SFSCHLR as the path, this is the default
  • After the download is complete (2 files unzipped successfully), click on OK
  • Close the Winzip self-extracting window

Step 2 - Install SciFinder Scholar Software

  • Go to the C drive in My Computer
  • Open the folder SFSCHLR
  • Double click on SFS2007.exe
  • Click on Setup
  • Follow the instructions - things to remember
    • Check the path, it should be C:\SFSCHLR
    • Setup type should be Typical Install

Be patient, this takes awhile

  • Question - Do you have a disk labeled Custom Site File? Answer: NO
  • A window will open showing the files, Close the window

    It will take a minute or two to finish install
  • Question - Do you want to install the SciFinder Scholar toolbar now? Answer: YES
  • Follow directions
  • At Install Shield Wizard Complete, click on Finish
  • Close folder

Step 3 - Run SciFinder Scholar

  • Go to Start menu/Programs
  • Click on SciFinder Scholar 2007 Edition
  • Read the User Agreement. If you agree to the terms of the contract, click Accept

SciFinder Scholar 2007 for Mac OS X (10.3 and higher)

Note: this procedure is written for OS X (10.4), previous or later versions might need slightly different configuration.

  • Download the File: sfs2007a-osx.zip and save it to your desktop. (This is an OS X zip file and may auto-extract.)

  • Installing SciFinder Scholar for Mac OS X:
    • Double click the "sfs2007a-osx.zip" icon to unzip or expand it if the file did not auto-extract..
      If this doesn't work, use a decompression program, such as "Stuffit Expander" to expand it.
    • Move this file (SciFinder Scholar 2007a) to the Applications folder on your hard drive (often called HD:Applications on Macs).

      Note: If you do not have "Admin" permissions, you may not be able to move SciFinder Scholar to Applications.
      In this case, move the SciFinder Scholar application package to your Home Folder (HD:Users:[Your Login])

  • Make an alias of this file to run the program from your Desktop or your Dock.

  • Double-click on your new Alias to start SciFinder Scholar 2007.
