SciFinder Scholar is only available on campus.

What is it?

SciFinder Scholar is a desktop research tool providing chemical and related scientific information. It retrieves information contained in databases produced by Chemical Abstracts Services (CAS) as well as the MEDLINE database from the National Library of Medicine. In addition to patent and journal references, CAS's REGISTRY database provides information about organic and inorganic compounds and sequences. CASREACT provides chemical reaction information. Chemical source and registry information is provided through the CHEMCATS and CHEMLIST databases.

Who can use it?

You must be a current faculty, staff or student of the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

What do I need to access it from my office?

SciFinder Scholar must be downloaded and installed on your campus computer. You will need the following:

You can do the searching yourself.
Stop by the Reference Desk or call 410-706-7996 to schedule an appointment to use the computer housing SciFinder. You must show your UMB ID when you come for your appointment. Searching the system is free.

Stop by the Reference Desk or call 410-706-7996 to schedule an appointment. Or fill out the "Request a Literature Search" form. Or fill out a paper copy of the "Request a Literature Search" form at the Reference Desk. A search costs $20.00.
