Clarinet EthIRnet Syncing Station

The HS/HSL's syncing station allows PalmOS
and PocketPC users to update Web-based content using their IR port. Once you have
configured your devise to use the Clarinet EthIRnet syncing station, you can use
it to update web-based content such as AvantGo channels. Select your operating
system below to get instructions.
PalmOS
Configuring your handheld
- Select the "Prefs"
Icon from the applications listing
- Select "General" from
the dropdown menu at the upper right
- Make sure time and date are correct
- Set "auto-off after:"
to 3 minutes
- Select "Network" from
the drop down menu at the upper right
- Set "Connection:"
to IR to a PD/Handheld
- Set "Service:"
to any service other than Windows RAS
- Leave "user Name:"
and "Password:" blank
- Click the Details button at the bottom
of the screen
- Set "Connection type:"
to PPP
- Set "Idle timeout:"
to Power Off
- Check the "Query DNS:"
box
- Check the "IP address:
Automatic" Box
- Click the "OK"
button at the bottom of the screen
- Click the Connect button at the bottom
of the screen and make sure the IR port of your handheld devise is in line
with the Clarinet EthIRnet device.
Updating AvantGo (note: you must
have an AvantGo account
and have AvantGo installed on your device)
- Once connected from the Preferences
application, open AvantGo
- Choose Modem Sync from the drop down
menu in the upper left hand corner
- You should now be connected to the
AvantGo server, your AvantGo channels will be updated
- To disconnect, select the Preferences
application and tap the Disconnect button at the bottom of the screen. You
must use this disconnect step or the hand held device will assume you are
still connected
WindowsCE
Configuring your handheld
- Go to "Start", "Settings",
click "Connections" tab
- Click the "Modem"
icon
- Choose "New Connection"
- Create a name for this connection (Clarinet
for example)
- Under "Select a modem:",
select "Generic IrDA modem"
- Baud rate: select "115200"
- Click "Advanced..."
- Make sure the check boxes under "Terminal"
are NOT checked
- Click the "TCP/IP"tab
- Make sure "Use server-assigned
IP address" is checked
- Click "OK"
- Click "Next"
- Enter any phone number (123 for example)
- Click "Next"
- Click "Finish"
- Click "OK"
- Whenever you need to use the library's
Clarinet EthIRnet system, make sure you use this new connection.
Updating AvantGo (note: you must
have an AvantGo account
and have AvantGo installed on your device)
- Go to "Start", "Settings",
click "Connections" tab
- Click the "Connection"
you created above.
- Click "OK" (Do not
enter a username or password)
- You should see a message that you are
connected
- Click the "Hide status"
button
- Once connected, click "OK"
on the Connections screen
- Go to start, settings, click the Connections
tab
- Click the "AvantGo Connect"
icon
- Click the "Sync all"
button
- Once syncing has completed, click"OK"
on the AvantGo connect screen
PocketPC
Configuring your handheld
- Go to "Start", "Settings",
click "Connections" tab
- Click the "Connections"
icon
- Choose"New...." from
the drop-down list for "When needed, automatically connect to The Internet
using these settings:"
- Create a name for this connection (Clarinet
for example)
- Click "OK"
- Click the "Modify"
button
- Click "New..."
- Give the modem a name (IR Modem, for
example)
- Under "Select a modem:",
select "Generic IrDA modem"
- Baud rate: select "115200"
- Click "Advanced..."
- Make sure the check boxes under "Terminal"
are NOT checked
- Click the "TCP/IP"
tab
- Make sure "Use server-assigned
IP address" is checked
- Click "OK"
- Click "Next"
- Enter any phone number (123 for example)
- Click "Finish"
- Click "OK"
- Whenever you need to use the library's
Clarinet EthIRnet system, make sure you use this new connection.
Updating AvantGo (note: you must
have an AvantGo account
and have AvantGo installed on your device)
- To to "Start", "Settings",
click "Connections" tab
- Click the "Connections"
icon
- Make sure the IR connection you created
above is selected and click the "Connect" button
- Click "OK" (do not
enter a user name or password)
- You should see a message that you are
connected. Message will disappear
- Once connected, click "OK"
on the Connections screen
- Click the "AvantGo Connect"
icon
- Click the "Sync all"
button
- Once syncing has completed, click "OK"
on the AvantGo Connect screen
- To disconnect from the Clarinet EthIRnet
Syncing Station port, click the two arrows on the top of the screen and choose
end.
