Welcome to Connections: 2012 MLA Quad Chapter Meeting!

On behalf of our four chapters, the Steering Committee welcomes you to Connections, the MLA Quad Chapter meeting at the Tremont Plaza Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland.

We are excited to have you join us for this singular experience as four Medical Library Association Chapters - Mid-Atlantic, Southern, New York/New Jersey, and Philadelphia Regional - join together to bring you three days of innovative programming, entertaining social events, and educational and networking opportunities. Your dedicated colleagues have spent countless hours putting together a meeting that you are sure to find enjoyable and stimulating.

The theme of this year's conference is connections, and we have already begun to join together as representatives from all of the chapters work to plan the event. And more connections will be made at the event:

  • Connections with particular people, groups, places, and things in order to improve service;
  • Connections to reach an "AH-HA breakthrough moment" for yourself or someone else;
  • Reconnections with a person, place, or thing;
  • Connections at close range, or spanning many miles;
  • Connections on the horizon---your wish list.

We eagerly anticipate presentations by our distinguished speakers. Souzan Hawala-Druy, MPH, BSN, will kick off the meeting on Sunday morning by sharing her expertise on cultural competency for the health professions. Dr. Jon Orwant, Director of Google Research, will deliver a keynote on Monday morning. To close the meeting, DeEtta Jones, Principal of DeEtta Jones and Associates, LLC, will share her insights on diversity, leadership and management issues.

The remainder of the program is packed with practical presentations and panels, informative posters, innovative networking sessions, a host of exhibits, and several high caliber continuing education opportunities, all within blocks of Baltimore's Inner Harbor, National Aquarium, and Science Center. There will be ample time to learn, as well as time to relax and enjoy some shopping and dining.

The free Charm City Circulator bus service stops almost at the hotel's door and will whisk you north to the restaurants and museums of the Mount Vernon neighborhood and south to the nightlife of Federal Hill. A transfer will take you to Baltimore's Little Italy with almost thirty restaurants and Harbor East, a new development with upscale shopping and dining. Historic Fells Point is just around the corner from there with bars, restaurants, and the water taxi to Fort McHenry. Don't like to ride in boats? The Circulator bus will also get you to Fort McHenry while you stay safely on land.

We are confident that Connections will inspire you with new challenges and wonderful memories. We sincerely thank all of the committee members and exhibitors for making this joint meeting possible. Your hard work and dedication have certainly paid off!

From all of us, thank you so much for coming! As the locals might say, "Welcome to Bawlmer, hon!"

Sincerely,

Steven Douglas, Mid-Atlantic Chapter
Racheline Habousha, New York/New Jersey Chapter
Laura Kane, Southern Chapter
Priscilla Stephenson, Philadelphia Regional Chapter
