Vaccaro's: Gioacchino Vaccaro established Vaccaro's Italian Pastry Shop in 1956. He was born and raised in Palermo, Italy. Mr. Jimmy, as he was so aptly known, brought with him the recipes and the knowledge of how to make the finest Siciliano pastries Baltimore had ever seen. Soon after opening, it was evident that the cannoli and rum cake had created a sensation among Baltimoreans.
Today Nick Vaccaro continues the family tradition begun by his father with the same old world recipes brought over from Italy. Vaccaro's has grown to include the new Pasticceria (pastry shop) which offers both carry out and a sit down café to enjoy, a state-of-the-art production facility and warehouse, and seven other locations throughout Baltimore and the surrounding areas. |

| Restaurant: Edo Sushi at the Inner Harbor |
| Description: The new Edo Sushi makes smart use of the [Inner Harbor] pavilion’s airy architectural lines and the enduringly captivating harbor views. The gloomy geisha kitsch that afflicts so many other local sushi joints is absent here-the space feels contemporary but not aggressively so, with shiny black surfaces, warm wood, and translucent screens.
Traditional seating facing the sushi chefs is available, but a more comfortable perch is the long, curving bar that extends out from there to the entrance. It has plenty of room for the inevitable accumulation of appetizers, dishes, dipping bowls, implements, and other vessels that can make sushi dining feel so cramped and awkward. [The food] convincingly demonstrates why Edo, which also has restaurants in Timonium and Owings Mills, has such an ardent following." |

| Payment: Edo Sushi accepts the following credits cards as payment at the Inner Harbor location: American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa. This restaurant will also create separate checks. |

| Resturant: The Helmand |
Description:Come enjoy an evening at the Helmand! Located in Baltimore's lovely and historic Mount Vernon Cultural District, the Helmand serves up delicious yet inexpensive Afghani dishes with white linen service and a full bar. According to the Baltimore City Paper, "Despite its range of veggie fare, it’s not the kind of place where vegetarians go to segregate themselves. It’s the kind of place where omnivores and vegetarians can peacefully co-exist in gastronomic bliss. Not only do they have delicious meat dishes, but their veggie ones are so good, too, that even the most ravenous carnivores among us often go meat-free here. That’s pretty impressive." The Zagat Survey says the Helmand "beckons with exotic dishes that consistently hit the mark. You must try the kaddo. It'll forever change how you think about pumpkins. And the chopan, charcoaled rack of lamb at its absolute zenith -- graciously served by an attentive staff in an elegant room to boot. It's an incredible value." The Baltimore Sun sums it up: "The Helmand is one of the best places in town." |
