Public Computing

Computers can be found on all floors of the library. Access is on a first come first served basis, with priority given to UMB faculty, students, and staff who are conducting research. Personal email and other non-academic activities should be kept to a minimum.  The general public may use computers to conduct health related research.

Running the Windows XP operating system, all computers are equipped with compact disc rewriteable drives (CDR), DVD players, head phone jacks, and multiple USBs.  A library barcode is needed to access most of the workstations.

Resources: The library's website provides access to most of the library's resources and services, including databases, electronic journals, electronic books, electronic reserves and the library's online catalog.

Services: Selected services via the website are only available to UMB faculty, students, staff and paid members and require a library barcode.  These include interlibrary loan, article photocopy, literature searches, etc.

Software: Computers have internet access and Microsoft Office 2007 software including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher and Infopath. Other software available includes OpenOffice and RefWorks Write-N-Cite.

Equipment:  Includes graphics scanner with Adobe Photoshop 7.0, text scanner with Omnipage Pro, color printer, and a printer capable of printing on resume paper or transparencies.

Printing: It is available on each floor at ten cents per page. Duplex printing is also available from each computer. These double-sided print jobs cost 10 cents per side. UMB faculty, students and staff may use their UMB1 One card for printing. Others may purchase a print card on the first floor of the library for $1.00. Funds must be added to the card to print. Color printing is available at $1.00 per page.

Personal work that is stored on the library's computers will not be saved. Please bring a USB flash drive to save work.
