TITLE: Liaison and Outreach Librarian (Faculty Librarian)

SALARY: $42,000 minimum
POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HS/HSL), University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) seeks a knowledgeable, energetic, and creative librarian to support the teaching and outreach missions of the Library. This faculty librarian works as part of a team of seven Liaison and Outreach Librarians within the Services Division. Spring 2008 library school graduates are welcome to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The librarian develops and provides onsite and web-based instruction for faculty, staff and students of UMB; works collaboratively with the campus community, and provides community-based health information outreach. The librarian evaluates print and online resources within a subject specialty to create a collection of resources to support campus initiatives, evaluates, selects, and organizes information from the web to create high quality web collections, and participates in designing innovative programs and services.
The librarian is expected to collaborate on divisional projects, serve on library-wide committees, and be professionally active in the field of health sciences librarianship. Some evening and weekend hours required. Some travel required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: MLS from ALA-accredited school; demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills; a strong service orientation; experience searching health and social sciences-related databases; experience locating and evaluating web resources.
Preferred: Reference experience in an academic or health sciences library; instruction experience; outreach experience; demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team; knowledge of library and social networking technology.

The HS/HSL is the second largest medical school library on the East Coast, providing access to 385,000 bound volumes, over 3000 electronic and print periodicals, and 52 databases. Sixty-eight FTEs and thirty faculty librarians staff the library. Our attractive facility, which opened in 1998, provides over 900 seats, 40 group study rooms, 130 individual study-carrels, 60 public-access computers, wireless Internet access, 3 computer classrooms, and a satellite conferencing center. The 190,000 square foot building also houses the Tower Café, the HS/HSL coffee lounge. The Library supports the 5,300 students, 6,600 faculty and staff members on UMB's 61-acre research and technology complex of 62 buildings including the University of Maryland Medical Center.
