Guidelines for Exhibitors
The following guidelines will help with planning for an exhibit at the Weise Gallery.
General Information
- All work must be reviewed by the Executive Director or Assistant Director prior to installation.
- The library does not charge a fee for exhibits but does welcome the donation of an exhibit piece to be permanently displayed at the library.
Display Information
- Gallery exhibits are displayed 2 months at a time according to availability
- No more than 50 pictures may be displayed in the Gallery Area
- All exhibits must be contained within the Gallery Area
- No exhibit items should be placed on or near the red wall
- Start and ending dates are set. Exhibits must be removed by the end date to allow the next exhibit to arrive as scheduled
Hanging Artwork
- All pictures must have picture-hanging wire on the back
- The existing gallery hardware must be used to hang all pictures
- Additional hardware use is not permitted if it damages or attaches to the wall in any way
- It is the responsibility of the artist to ensure that work is securely displayed on the hanging fixtures provided
Supplementary Material/Sales
- Supplementary materials, explanations, or pricing information is the responsibility of the exhibitor
- If the art is for sale, it is the responsibility of the artist to provide contact information for sales. The library will not be responsible or act as the go-between for any sale
- The exhibitor information sheet should contain the following information:
- Name of piece
- Size of piece
- Price of piece (pictures: framed or unframed information)
- Contact information: e-mail and/or phone number
Receptions
- If you plan to hold an opening reception, please provide the following information:
- Date
- Time (check library hours in advance)
- If there will be food and/or drinks, please provide the following information:
- Person/organization who will provide the food and drink (The library will reimburse up to $100 in food/drink receipts toward reception costs.)
- Set-up requirement
Publicity
- The Library will send out a press release and announce the exhibit on the Weise Gallery web site
- Please submit the following information at least 30 days before you exhibit:
- A biography about yourself with the name of your exhibit
- A picture of an exhibit item and/or a photo of yourself
- The URL of your website, if you have one
Security
- There is a guard on duty at the front entrance of the Library during all hours that the Library is open to the public. The Library & the University of Maryland, Baltimore will not be responsible for any damage or loss that occurs to items on display.
