“Paris: Fantasy Townscapes”
December 11, 2006 – February 5, 2007

“More artists have painted and continue to paint views of Paris than any other city on Earth. In this series of eleven paintings I challenged myself to find a new way to express the city that I have visited dozens of times. Each painting began as a small pen and ink sketch I made of a unique view of Paris. The paintings filter these sketches through dream-like visions of color and abstraction. The paintings have a surreal sense, the objects and places may be familiar, but there is a mysterious feel about them, not quite real, but yet a real place. For me these fantasy townscapes best express the essence of Paris”.

Tennenbaum is UMB Director of Real Estate Development and over a 45 year career he planned, designed, and participated in the development of new towns and urban centers – focusing on Columbia and Baltimore’s downtown. His work has been exhibited at the Columbia Art Center and Baltimore Museum of Art to name two of many. Twenty-three of his stained glass window designs have been installed in a Columbia Jewish education center. In addition his works have been published as book covers, magazine illustrations, greeting notes and post cards, CD covers, and for a cultural events poster in Paris.
