The following is a selective list of Internet resources that focus on the interests
of the social work profession. The sites have been selected by the HS/HSL liaison
to the School of Social Work. If you have any suggestions for additional sites or if you are unable

Center for Mental Health Law

Clearinghouse for free information about mental health, including publications,

policymakers. It is the primary source for Federal Government reports and

development, urban planning, and other housing-related topics.

Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI)
Includes contacts for state and local NAMI affiliates, fact sheets on specific
mental illnesses and treatment options, legislative action alerts, and articles
on recent research including clinical trials and ethical issues.

of Americans and providing essential human services. Many government agencies
related to social work fall within this department.

Information Network
A comprehensive central access point for searching, locating, ordering and
acquiring government information.
- Centers for Medicare
and Medicaid Services
The federal agency that administers Medicare, Medicaid and the State Children's
Health Insurance Program. Includes links to laws, statistics and federal publications
regarding the above programs.
- MedlinePLUS
Developed by the National Library of Medicine, this consumer-oriented site
provides access to extensive information about specific diseases and conditions
and also has links to consumer health information from the National Institutes
of Health, dictionaries, lists of hospitals and physicians, drug information
from the United States Pharmacopeia, and health information in Spanish and
other languages.

This site offers information on clinical trials, funding opportunities and
current research, and is tailored to both consumers and practitioners in the

Partners Substance Abuse Information Database (SAID)
Database provides information with summaries and full text of materials relating
to workplace substance abuse issues. Site administered by the Department of

City Department of Planning
Statistics for Baltimore City neighborhoods.
The Neighborhood
Profiles link provides data from the 2000 Census for each of Baltimore's
Neighborhood Statistical Areas. The profiles offer a general demographic
portrait that shows changes since 1990 and compares individual neighborhoods
to citywide totals for categories such as population, age, family household
type and housing characteristics. Click

State Data Center
A wealth of Maryland state statistical information from the Maryland Department
of Planning including 2000 census data, historic census numbers, and census
projections. Included are statistics on population, race, age, households,
labor force, jobs, income and school enrollment. Information can be found
for the state, counties, congressional districts, census tracts, place, block
groups, and zip codes. Census 2000 Data and Projections are

The Disability Statistics Center is a national center of research and training
in disability statistics. It receives primary funding from the National Institute

Test Collection - TestLink
The ETS Test Collection includes an extensive
library of 20,000 tests and other measurement devices from the early 1900s
to the present. The tests contained in this collection were acquired from
a variety of U.S. publishers and individual test authors. Foreign tests are
also included in the collection, including some from Canada, Great Britain,
and Australia.

This site, put together by the American Psychological Association, gives information
on finding both published and unpublished tests and measurements.

A document which provides general information on tests and instruments, outlines
how to use the library's databases to locate tests and instruments, offers
tips on how to locate tests and instruments within the library, and includes
a bibliography of test books at the HS/HSL.

psychosocial sciences, organizational behavior, and library and information
science. Identifies measures needed for research studies, grant proposals,

A tutorial on how to use Ovid Medline. Other Ovid databases that operate similarly
to Medline and are pertinent to social work are PsycINFO, Sociological Abstracts,
HaPI and CINAHL.
