The following is a selective list of Internet
resources that focus on the interests of the pharmacy profession. The sites have
been selected by the HS/HSL liaison to the School of Pharmacy. The selection criteria
used to choose the following sites may also be of use to you when evaluating any
web site. If you have any suggestions for additional sites or if you are unable

Council on Pharmaceutical Education
The national agency for the accreditation of professional degree programs
and continuing pharmaceutical education in pharmacy.
- American
Association of Colleges of Pharmacy
National organization representing the interests of pharmaceutical education.
The site includes information for faculty and students regarding institutions,
government advocacy, and resources in pharmacy education.
- American Association of Pharmaceutical
Scientists (AAPS)
Professional society serving pharmaceutical scientists in academia, industry,
government, and other research institutes. The site includes links to AAPS
journals, news, meeting information, products, and affiliated organizations.
- American Pharmacists Association
Professional society for pharmacists. The site includes links to consumer
information, education and professional development resources, APhA journals,
and drug recalls and FDA alerts.

Public Health Association
The APHA web site provides information on membership, section activities,
publications, continuing education, programs, and legislative activities.
Links to state and world public health associations and other resources are
provided.

Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists
Web site for the society serving hospital and health systems pharmacists.
It provides access to ASHP member information, practice resources, and products
and services. AJHP instructions to authors available with formats for citing
references.
- International
Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research
The society promotes the science of pharmacoeconomics and health outcomes
research. The web site includes informaiton regarding membership, research,
meetings, and publications.
- Maryland Pharmacists Association
Professional association for Maryland pharmacists. The site provides membership
information and links to continuing education and employment opportunities.

Resources include Maryland state license and permit information. The site

From Corey Nahman.com, the database provides prescribing information for anti-depressant
drugs organized alphabetically by brand name.
- HealthWeb:
Databases
Links to a variety of free databases including resources for pharmaceutical
research and toxicology.
- Johns
Hopkins Division of Infectious Diseases Antibiotic Guide
The site includes an antibiotic database, searchable by diagnosis, drug name,
or pathogen. It also offers news, features, and other types of antibiotic
information. Free registration required.
- Toxnet
Provided by the National Library of Medicine, Toxnet offers a cluster of databases
on toxicology, hazardous substances, and related areas. Databases include
HSDB, IRIS, GENE-TOX, CCRIS, TOXLINE, DART/ETIC, TRI, and ChemIDplus

- National
Academies Press
The National Academies Press publishes reports issued by the National Academy
of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine,
and the National Research Council. Over 2,500 free online books are available.
- Report on Carcinogens (9th)
Published by the U.S. Public Health Service, the document provides listings
and profiles of known carcinogens.
- USP DI® Advice
for the Patient®
Provided as part of MEDLINEplus, the guide provides patient information to
more than 9,000 prescription and over-the-counter medications provided by
the United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
- World
Health Report
A yearly report that assesses a specific aspect of world health and makes
recommendations for improvement. A summary of the report in all six WHO official
languages - English, French Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Russian - appears
on this website, as well as the full version of the report in French.

This table, developed by the Indiana University Department of Medicine, offers
a hypothesis testing, teaching and reference tool for health care providers
and researchers interested in drug interactions involving the human cytochrome
P450 system.

Provided by the Dalhousie College of Pharmacy, the site provides an organized
listing of resources in order to aid pharmacists in providing drug information.
Information and tutorials for using the
Internet are also provided.

Maintained by the Purdue Pharmacy, Nursing, and Health Sciences Library, the

Comprehensive site offers links to jobs, pharmacy schools, community pharmacies,

Science Guide: "Virtual" Pharmacy Center
Comprehensive site from Martindale's Health Science Guide. Includes
links to courses, databases, dictionaries, metabolic pathways and genetic

Medicine Sites
- Alternative Medicine:
Health Care Information Resources
This comprehensive site offers links to general resources on alternative medicine
as well as annotated lists of resources on specific therapies. It is maintained
by Tom Flemming of McMaster University Health Sciences Library.
- HerbaLinks
Maintained by the Division of Drug Information Service of the University of
Iowa College of Pharmacy, the web site is designed to provide pharmacists
access to herbal medicine information. It offers links to web-based resources
and includes evaluative descriptions and ratings based on the quality of information
and the design of the sites.
- The
Longwood Herbal Task Force
This site includes in-depth mongraphs on herbal products and supplements written
by health professionals and students from the Children’s Hospital, the Massachusetts
College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
It includes clinical information summaries, patient fact sheets, interactions
and toxicity information.
- NCCAM: National Center for Complementary and Alternative
Medicine
The official site for the National Center for Complementary and Alternative
Medicine (NCCAM) at the National Institutes of Health. The site includes access
to factsheets, consensus reports, and databases. Information regarding research,
clinical trials, and other CAM resources is provided for both practitioners
and the general public.
- Quackwatch
Operated by Dr. Stephen Barrett, M.D., Quackwatch provides a skeptic's look
at a number of alternative medicine therapies. It provides both general information,
as well as critical analyses of an extensive list of practices.

Medication Errors Resources
- Institute
for Safe Medication Practices
The site provides extensive resources for health professionals and
consumers. The website provides information on medications and safety alerts
(including textbook errata), error reporting, products and services, self
assessment, and news. Links to other resources, a message board,
and other contact information is included.
- MedWatch
MedWatch provides medical product safety information from the FDA. It also
offers a reporting system for health professionals and consumers to submit
serious reactions or problems regarding medications or medical devices.
- National
Coordinating Council for Medication Error Reporting and Prevention
Web site provides information about the NCC MRP and its recommendations
to prevent medication errors. Also included are press releases, links to sites
for reporting errors, and other resources for both health professionals and
consumers.
- USP
Medication Errors Reporting (MER) Program
This site allows health professionals to report potential or actual
errors to the USP in a confidential manner. The USP will also
facilitate anonymous reports to the FDA if desired.
