Library Services
The Health Sciences and Human Services
Library (HS/HSL) is open to the public. A photo id is required to enter. Anyone
who enters may use the library's resources in-house. If you would like to borrow
a book, you are invited to become an Individual
Member or Corporate Member of the HS/HSL.
To determine if the library
owns a book you need, search CatalogUSMAI.
Books may be borrowed from the library
if you become a Member of the Library. Circulation Policies are presented and
explained to each borrower as she or he is entered into the Library's circulation
system. A barcode is placed on the Individual Member Library card issued to
the new member. This card and a picture ID must be presented before a transaction
may take place. Circulation Policy.
Patron Responsibilities
- Patrons who owe $50.00 or more in
library fines and/or fees will be denied borrowing privileges until the
debt is reduced to less than $50.00. A message will automatically appear
in the Library's on site Circulation system to this effect.
- Patrons are responsible for reporting
to Circulation any changes in their names, addresses, telephone numbers,
or borrowing status. Failure to do so does not alter obligations.
- Borrowers are responsible for items
borrowed from HS/HSL until the items have been discharged at HS/HSL.
- Patrons should report lost or stolen
Individual Member Library cards to Circulation immediately, so that the
Library may block use of the card.
- Patrons should keep track of due
dates for items they have checked out. The Library sends out overdue notices,
but this practice is a courtesy; the Library is not responsible for notifying
patrons that their items are overdue.
- Borrowers should return material
promptly by the due date or the renewal date. HS/HSL fines users who do
not return items by the due date. There is no grace period for overdue material.
- Borrowers should respond promptly
to all notices to help minimize the occurrence of overdue fines.
- Borrowers must clear all obligations
with the Library before leaving the UM, B campus.
HS/HSL Circulation staff will pull books
from the Library's stacks for borrowers and hold them at the Circulation Desk.
Call ahead to have a book held at the front desk for check out. The cost is
$6.00/book.
Self-Service Copiers
HS/HSL contains 7 patron-use copiers.
Location
Two are located on the first floor,
two on the second floor, two on the third floor, and one
on the fifth floor. Copy rooms located on the first through third floors
are under the staircase. The fifth floor copy room is located along the east
wall, near the southeast corner of the building.
Costs
- All 7 copiers accept debit cards;
1 copier on the first floor also accepts coins.
- Debit cards may be purchased during
all normal hours of HS/HSL operation. Dispensers are located near the first
floor elevators in the HS/HSL. Debit cards cost $1.00 to purchase and are
reusable.
- The coin-operated machines accept
nickels, dimes and quarters. Coin-operated copies cost 15 cents per page.
- Change for $10 and lower denominations
is often available at the HS/HSL Circulation Desk. A bill changer that accepts
both $1 and $5 bills is near the first floor elevators. However, the bill
changer and the Circulation Desk may run out of change during high-use days;
therefore, it is recommended that anyone planning to make photocopies should
bring the appropriate change/bills needed to complete the task.
Special Features
- Two copiers on the first floor support
automatic duplex copying and copying onto transparencies. These machines
can also produce 81/2 X 14 copies.
- Transparency sheets are available
for purchase at the Circulation Desk on the first floor.
All photocopiers in the Library are owned and managed by University of Maryland,
Baltimore Auxiliary Services.
Copyright
