    Get organized and avoid a “data disaster”! This workshop provides basic strategies and best practices for effectively managing research data to ensure its organization and accessibility. Topics covered include: funder and journal requirements for data management and sharing, standards for file naming and structure, resources for data management planning and sharing, and strategies for storing data during research and preserving it for the future.

    3D Printing is being quickly adopted in health sciences and healthcare for both educational, research, and clinical purposes. In this workshop you will learn where to find and download 3D model files online and learn the steps to take to ensure that the file can actually be printed including scaling and checking for non-manifold geometry issues. This workshop will also provide an introduction on how to operate the Makerbot Replicator 2X and Afinia H480 3D Printers which can be used at the HS/HSL Innovation Space.

  • Communicating with Patients

    Are you aware of your patients' ability to understand and act on the information you give them? There is evidence that health care providers overestimate what patients are able to understand. Low health literacy is associated with higher mortality, higher rates of hospitalization and readmission, and poor self-management skills for chronic disease. This workshop covers the basics of health literacy, provides a hands-on opportunity to put difficult medical jargon into plain language, and introduces tools that will assist you in creating easy-to-read materials.

  • Imaging Informatics Monthly Series

    We will cover a variety of basic and advanced imaging informatics topics using Open Source and commercial software. Series topics will alternate between basic and advanced. Students will get hands on applying skills gained through attendance at the workshop. There will also be opportunity for Q&A with presenters on specific questions.     In this workshop you will be introduced 3D modeling. You will learn where to find existing models and how to create a model from scratch. We will measure a small physical object and model it using Tinkercad.com, a free 3D modeling web service. No prior experience or tools are necessary.
