Edward V. Chapel is the Vice President for Information Technology at Montclair State University. He has focused his professional efforts for most of his career on the strategic uses of technology in higher education. He pursues a particular interest in the living and learning benefits of mobile computing, and broadband cellular services in particular, for contemporary college students. Prior to working in the information technology arena, Chapel used his doctoral preparation in sociology to support his activities as an Institutional Research professional and a faculty member, teaching a broad range of courses in the discipline with a special focus on quantitative research methods and sampling design. |
Social Learning Using Cell Phone Technology

This presentation will describe how faculty at Montclair State University foster social learning using mobile technology. Social learning enhances knowledge when students create learning environments by making connections among their peers and community. Educators struggle to develop innovative teaching strategies to meet the expectations of digital natives who are accustomed to this social environment.
